The album was produced by Teddy Reig for Roulette Records and arranged by Ralph Sharon. The tracks were recorded at the Capitol Studios in New York City on January 3 and 5, 1959.

Count Basie was at the piano on tracks #1 and 3 with Ralph Sharon on piano on all the other tracks. The Basie Band included:

Thad Jones, Snooky Young, Wendell Culley and Joe Newman-trumpet

Henry Coker, Al Grey, Benny Powell-trombone

Marshall Royal, Frank Wess, Frank Foster, Billy Mitchell, Charles Fowlkes-saxophone
