In The Wee Small Hours:
Sinatra on Capitol
capitol CDP 7 46571 2
The Wee Small Hours album was recorded on February 8, 16, 17, 23 and March 4, 1955. This marked the beginning of a pioneering series of "concept" albums. The songs are all standards and several had been previously recorded by Frank at Columbia, but with his now deeper baritone and insightful interpretations, these ballad performances remain unparalleled. It's Tony Bennett's all time favorite Sinatra album and is one of the most beautiful albums of ballads ever made. Sinatra's rendition of Duke Ellington's Mood Indigo was declared by writer, historian Leonard Feather to be one of the finest versions of the song ever recorded.
